A damaged card is not necessarily a lost cause. At The Mint Workshop, we work with Pokémon cards across the full spectrum of condition — from light surface wear to more significant structural damage — and we approach every card with the same question: what is realistically achievable, and is it worth pursuing?
We don't oversell results. We assess honestly, communicate clearly, and only perform work we can stand behind. If a card's damage is beyond what restoration can meaningfully address, we'll tell you before any work begins.
What Counts as a Damaged Pokémon Card?
In grading terminology, "damaged" refers to cards with significant physical imperfections — but in practice, collectors use the term broadly for any card that isn't in the condition they'd like. At The Mint Workshop, we work with cards across all damage profiles, including:
- Creased or bent cards — Cards with visible fold lines, bends, or structural deformation from handling or storage.
- Scratched cards — Surface scratches on holo, reverse holo, or standard card surfaces that affect visual presentation.
- Cards with whitening — Edge and border whitening from handling, sleeve friction, or age — particularly common on vintage cards.
- Cards with surface contamination — Fingerprints, residue, sticker marks, and environmental film that obscure the card's surface.
- Cards with corner wear — Rounded, dinged, or frayed corners from handling or storage.
- Cards with multiple issues — Cards carrying a combination of the above, assessed holistically to determine the best restoration pathway.
Transparency note: Some damage is not correctable. Cards with severe structural damage, deep creases with ink cracking, significant print defects, or major physical alterations may have limited or no restoration potential. We will always tell you what is and is not achievable before work begins.
Before & After
Every card we work on is photographed at intake and upon completion under controlled lighting. You receive a full visual record of the work performed — so you can see exactly what changed and make informed decisions about next steps, including grading submission.

Our Repair Process
- Intake & Full Condition Assessment — Your card is received and examined under magnification. We document all damage — surface, structural, and cosmetic — before any work begins.
- Honest Evaluation — We assess what is realistically improvable and communicate this clearly. If the damage profile doesn't warrant restoration, we'll tell you.
- Restoration Plan — For cards where restoration is appropriate, we outline the specific techniques to be applied and the expected outcome range.
- Precision Repair — Work is performed in a controlled environment using professional-grade materials. Each technique is selected for the card's specific damage profile.
- Post-Repair Review — The card is re-examined under magnification and compared against intake photography. We evaluate the result against grading presentation standards.
- Documentation & Return — Before and after images are compiled and returned with your card in archival-safe packaging.
Turnaround Time
Standard turnaround is 10–15 business days from intake confirmation. Cards with complex or multi-issue damage profiles may require additional time. Rush processing is available. We communicate proactively on all timelines.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it worth repairing a damaged card?
It depends on the card's value and the nature of the damage. For high-value cards — vintage holos, PSA submission candidates, or cards with significant collector or investment value — professional restoration can meaningfully improve both presentation and grading potential. We'll help you assess whether it makes sense for your specific card.
Can severely damaged cards be restored?
Some severe damage is not correctable. Cards with deep structural creases, ink loss, or major physical damage may have limited restoration potential. We assess every card individually and will never overstate what's achievable.
Will repair affect my card's PSA grade?
Restoration can improve a card's visual presentation, but grading outcomes are never guaranteed. We make no grade promises. Our goal is to give your card its best honest presentation — the grading company makes the final determination.
What if my card has multiple types of damage?
Multi-issue cards are assessed holistically. We identify all damage at intake, prioritize what can be meaningfully improved, and outline a restoration plan that addresses the card's full condition profile. You approve the plan before any work begins.
