Pokémon Card Crease Repair

A crease is one of the most damaging imperfections a Pokémon card can carry — visible under any light, penalized heavily by graders, and deeply frustrating for collectors who know what the card looked like before. At The Mint Workshop, crease repair is one of our most requested services, and one we approach with the precision it demands.

Not every crease can be fully eliminated. But with the right technique, many can be significantly reduced — improving the card's visual presentation and grading potential in a meaningful way.

What Is Crease Repair?

Crease repair is the controlled application of pressure, humidity, and heat — calibrated specifically for trading card materials — to reduce or minimize the visual and structural impact of a crease or bend. It is a delicate process that requires an understanding of card stock composition, finish type, and crease depth.

At The Mint Workshop, every crease repair begins with a thorough assessment. We evaluate the crease under magnification, determine its depth and direction, and establish realistic expectations before any work begins.

What Types of Creases Can Be Improved?

  • Light surface creases — Shallow creases that affect the surface layer but have not fully broken the card stock. These typically respond best to treatment.
  • Bend creases — Cards that have been bent along an edge or corner, creating a visible fold line. Often significantly improvable.
  • Diagonal creases — Creases running at an angle across the card face, commonly caused by improper storage or handling.
  • Edge and border creases — Creasing along the card's border, often from sleeve insertion or pack handling.

Transparency note: Deep creases that have fully broken the card stock, or creases with associated ink cracking, have limited restoration potential. We will always provide an honest assessment before proceeding. We do not perform work we cannot stand behind.

Before & After

Crease repair results are documented with high-resolution photography at intake and upon completion. You receive a full visual record of the work performed alongside your returned card.

Our Crease Repair Process

  1. Intake & Magnified Assessment — Your card is received and examined under magnification. We document the crease type, depth, location, and any associated surface damage.
  2. Restoration Plan — We determine the appropriate technique based on the card's stock weight, finish, and crease profile. You are informed of realistic expectations before work begins.
  3. Controlled Treatment — Crease reduction is performed using calibrated pressure and humidity in a controlled environment. No shortcuts, no guesswork.
  4. Post-Treatment Review — The card is re-examined under magnification and compared against intake photography. We assess the result against grading presentation standards.
  5. Documentation & Return — Before and after images are compiled and returned with your card in archival-safe packaging.

Turnaround Time

Crease repair typically completes within 7–12 business days from intake confirmation, depending on crease complexity. Rush processing is available. We communicate proactively if additional time is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a crease be completely removed?

In some cases, light creases can be reduced to near-invisibility. In others, the improvement is significant but the crease remains detectable under close inspection. We will always tell you what is realistically achievable for your specific card before work begins.

Will crease repair affect the card's holo or foil finish?

This depends on the crease location and depth. Creases that intersect with holo or foil areas require additional care. We assess each card individually and will flag any elevated risk before proceeding.

Does crease repair count as card alteration?

No. Crease repair addresses natural physical damage to the card's structure. It does not involve adding or removing material, and it is compliant with PSA and BGS submission standards. We do not perform services that constitute alteration under grading company guidelines.

What if my card has other damage in addition to the crease?

We assess the full condition of every card at intake. If additional restoration is appropriate, we'll recommend it — but you're never charged for work you didn't request or approve.
