Submit My CardsPSA Grading Prep Service
Submitting a card to PSA without preparation is like sending a job application with typos. The card may be valuable — but its presentation is working against it. At The Mint Workshop, our PSA grading prep service is designed to give your card the best honest presentation possible before it enters the grading room.
We don't promise grades. We prepare cards. And we do it with the precision, documentation, and collector-focused care that high-value submissions demand.
What Is PSA Grading Prep?
PSA grading prep is the process of assessing and addressing a card's physical condition before submission to PSA — the world's leading trading card grading company. Graders evaluate cards across four primary categories: centering, corners, edges, and surface. Our prep service focuses on the surface and structural elements where professional restoration can make a meaningful difference.
Every card we prep is assessed against PSA's grading criteria. We identify what's working in the card's favor, what's working against it, and what can realistically be improved before submission.
What Our Grading Prep Includes
- Full condition assessment — Magnified evaluation of the card's surface, edges, corners, and structure against PSA grading standards.
- Surface cleaning — Safe removal of fingerprints, dust, residue, and surface contaminants that affect presentation under grading-room lighting.
- Surface correction — Targeted treatment of light scratches and surface marks on holo and non-holo cards where improvement is achievable.
- Crease and bend assessment — Evaluation of any structural deformation and treatment where reduction is possible.
- Whitening treatment — Edge and border whitening addressed where applicable, particularly on vintage cards.
- Pre-submission documentation — Full intake and completion photography provided with your returned card.
Important: Grading prep improves presentation — it does not alter a card or guarantee a specific grade. PSA's grading determination is final and independent of any preparation work. We are fully compliant with PSA submission guidelines.
Before & After
Every card we prep is photographed at intake and upon completion under controlled lighting. This documentation gives you a clear record of the card's condition before and after preparation — useful for your own records and for understanding what to expect from the grading process.

Our Process
- Submission & Intake — Your card is received and photographed under controlled lighting and magnification. We document all existing condition issues.
- Grading Criteria Assessment — We evaluate the card against PSA's four grading categories and identify where preparation can improve presentation.
- Preparation Work — Surface cleaning, correction, and structural treatment are performed as appropriate for the card's specific condition profile.
- Pre-Submission Review — The card is re-examined against grading standards. We compare against intake photography and confirm the card is ready for submission.
- Documentation & Return — Full before and after photography is compiled and returned with your card in archival-safe packaging.
Turnaround Time
PSA grading prep typically completes within 7–14 business days from intake confirmation, depending on the scope of preparation required. Rush processing is available for time-sensitive submissions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will grading prep guarantee a PSA 10?
No. Grading outcomes are determined solely by PSA. Our job is to give your card its best honest presentation — the grade is PSA's determination. We never make grade promises.
Is grading prep considered card alteration?
No. Our preparation services address natural wear and surface imperfections within the card's existing condition. We do not add or remove material in a way that misrepresents the card's grade. All work is fully compliant with PSA submission guidelines.
What cards benefit most from grading prep?
Cards that are close to a grade threshold benefit most — particularly those with surface contamination, light scratches, or minor whitening that could be addressed before submission. High-value cards where the difference between a PSA 8 and PSA 9 represents significant value are ideal candidates.
Do you submit to PSA on my behalf?
We prepare your card for submission. PSA submission logistics — membership, submission forms, and shipping to PSA — are handled by you. We can advise on the process if needed.
Can you prep cards for BGS or CGC as well?
Yes. While our page focuses on PSA prep, our preparation methodology applies equally to BGS (Beckett) and CGC submissions. Each grading company has slightly different criteria — we assess against the relevant standards for your intended submission.
